The 'winner' of the matches are judged on not only the mathematical result but also the teams ability to show teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. Without exception, every Leweston young person showed these characteristics in an abundance on the day. A hugely successful day was had by all.
After some very close games, Leweston 'St Anthony's' came out on top and will now have the opportunity to go to the Touch Rugby Finals day at a premiership rugby ground. Success here can lead to playing at Twickenham before an international match!
In addition to the players, there was also the opportunity for Leweston six Sixth Formers to attend and referee the tournament. The Sixth Form students gave up an afternoon for some intense referee training and went on to referee the tournament exceptionally well. They showed huge levels of maturity and confidence to deal with challenging situations during the matches.
"What has been a real privilege is to witness the pupils whom have not traditionally played games excel and achieve huge personal success. I firmly believe it has brought a new confidence to a number of our Year 9 students. The Sixth Formers refereed with such composure that they have been invited to go and referee on finals day at the Worcester Warriors ground - you can't receive a better compliment than that. A day to say - 'I am proud be part of Leweston'." - Mr Wilford, Sport Teacher.
