As part of their activities, the pupils learned how to read, write and pronounce Japanese numbers. Using the Kanji alphabet system, the children investigated how Japanese numbers build on each other. By the end of the session they were able to understand numbers up to and including one thousand and enjoyed fun playing quizzes and games along the way.
They also learned about the necessary rationing in World War Two and created some carrot cookies, a recipe used at the time. They were then tasked to design and make Anderson shelter models. Everyone showed great creativity throughout.
Prep 5 then visited the Forest School to build woodland air raid shelters.
Well done to everyone who really embraced the day, getting into brilliant costumes, and taking away some valuable lessons about what life was like for evacuees during World War Two.
