On Tuesday 16th of May 2023 at 11.30am Stover School Combined Cadet Force detachment (CCF) will parade for the presentation of a “Stand of Banners” (2 flags) supported by serving military personnel (subject to operational requirements) and numerous Devon ex-service associations including a Corps of Drums.
The presentation of the “flags” will be preceded by an open-air “Drum-head” service of dedication officiated by the School's Chaplain.
First to be received will be a Union Flag defaced in the centre by both the Crown of St.Edward and underneath the insignia of the CCF, incorporating the 3 service crowns of the Royal Navy, Army and Air Force, known within the military as a “Colour”.
It is believed that this will be the first officially recognised presentation of the Union Flag following the coronation of King Charles the third in his own name; a 3 Star General representing the King, in his official capacity of Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, will carry out the presentation.
Secondly, a CCF Schools standard (flag) incorporating at its the centre the Crown of St.Edward above a wreath of emblems representing the four countries of the United Kingdom with the School's individual insignia situated in the middle.
This will be presented to the detachment by the Commanding Officer of the Schools affiliated Regiment who, in addition, has been assigned to inspect the detachment following the service as part of the MOD’s bi-annual inspection process, the first in-person inspection since the detachment was formed in 2019 due to the pandemic lockdowns.
Throughout the afternoon, Cadets will carry out displays from the CCF syllabus, including a paintball exercise.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the Inspecting Officer will present a number of awards including the newly established “Royal British Legion Newton Abbot Branch Presidents Cup” presented to the best overall Cadet for 2022/23.
