The Royal School’s Year 10 team were crowned Maths Feast winners on Friday 3 February in a fierce competition against 15 other teams, including teams from Reed’s, Bedales and Frensham Heights.
Ellie, George, Peter and Rufus proved to be a fantastic team! Mrs Klusch, Maths teacher, said “It was a pleasure to see them working together… It was a real team effort, all of them working hard and contributing to the victory. They were also exposed to new learning, as one of the tasks - estimating pi (where they got full marks) - followed the method developed by Archimedes a couple of hundreds of years BC.
Maths Feast is organised by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (a government-funded initiative) and is a fun educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of four students test their maths skills with an all-you-can-eat feast of problems! There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success. Each event takes between two and three hours, and awards are given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.
