Westholme School have been marking their centenary in style – by involving all students and even Old Westholmians in the celebrations.
A ‘Party Day’ was held at the school to celebrate 100 wonderful years of the school – where students observed the milestone in assembly before taking part in escape room-style challenges, a carousel of activities including an inflatable obstacle course, exhibition, ice cream van, photo booth and an array of stalls.
The students came together to sing Happy Birthday before blowing the 100 candles out on a show-stopping cake created by the School’s catering company Thomas Franks, before the students were treated to a special Disney medley – a company also celebrating its centenary - including a performance of The Lion King, by staff.
The school was decorated around the site thanks to balloon installations by Emily Dunn, a former student, who now has her own events and styling business. Emily is also helping to set the scene at the School’s Centenary party night in September at Stanley House.
She said: “It felt good to support the school, and there’s a real community of Old Westholmians. It felt like coming home.”
The individual cakes were provided by another former student - Nancy from Isabakes, who created a selection of mouth-watering cupcakes for students.
And finally, former student Liz Long sang ‘Part of your world’ from Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the staff performance assembly, applauded by the audience.
Liz, who performed on the West End before becoming a LAMDA drama teacher at the school for 9 years, said: “It was wonderful. I remember the 75th anniversary when I was at school back when I was in Prep. It’s a privilege to be here and involved in the centenary.
And the centenary links don’t stop there for Liz – Brindle Distillery, run by her parents and husband, have created a limited run of 100 bottles of Westholme gin available to purchase from the school.
