Westholme School took part in a ‘Wall of Dance’ during a UK first at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Performing Arts students joined over 1,500 dancers, singers & students from over 70 locations in the UK to perform together as part of Dance London 2024.
The 16 students, ranging from Years 7 to 12, performed two different numbers, all themed around the idea of superheroes.
The first was to a medley of songs including ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Hero’ by Enrique Iglesias and clips from the Batman films, and the second was to ‘Holding out for a Hero’, with vocals by the schools involved.
Karen Barber, Head of Dance at Westholme, said: “We had a fantastic time! We were dancing as part of the ‘Wall of Dance’ – a total first for the UK, where we created a record-breaking group dance from within the stands which was shown throughout the stadium on the big screens.
“Our students were lucky enough to be positioned at the very front, and right in front of the camera, so lots of close-ups being shown to the crowd of 62,000 people!
“The performers were thrilled to have had the opportunity to take part in the record-breaking performance.”
Westholme School secured the place after auditioning to take part and providing evidence of previous performances.
After a series of Zoom interviews, they worked with a professional choreographer who has performed in the West End and travelled up from London to put the students through their paces and teach them the routines.
Sophia, a Year 7 student, said: “That was so entertaining! I can’t believe we have just done that, performed in front of so many people, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’ll never forget.”
