The Nursery enjoyed a variety of themed sensory play, tuff trays including Stick Man, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and The Gruffalo. The children also came into Nursery in some fantastic costumes, channelling their favourite characters. The staff very much enjoyed looking at all of the World Book Day – ‘read in a funny place’ photo competition entries. Congratulations to the winners; Bertie (Babies), India (Toddlers), Beatrix (TC1), Samuel F (TC2).
The Prep School came in to school on Friday in their World Book Day costumes and brought along the book that inspired their outfit. Everyone was also invited to take part in the ‘extreme reading competition’. The pupils sent in photos of themselves reading their books in unusual and out-of-the-ordinary places. Congratulations to the winners; Connie H and Jasper C.
As a special World Book Day treat Reception Class read their reading scheme books with another child. They loved this and seemed to listen to the advice given, much more than with an adult!
The Senior School boarders had lots of fun celebrating all things literacy throughout their Reading Week. You can see what they got up to on their Instagram Page; from sharing their current reads, to ‘Guess the Staff Member’s Book Shelf, to ‘Blind Date With a Book’ – wrapping up books to share with the school – with the idea that prospective readers make their choice based purely on synopsis and not the cover!
The rest of the Senior School will be dressing up as their favourite characters on 23 March, making a donation to charity and taking a moment to read their favourite book, brought into school, throughout the day.
