Society of Heads' Football Tournament 2024
The Society of heads boys football tournaments came to a climax at Market Harborough Football Club on Wednesday 1st May. Since January teams have been battling it out in the under 18 and under 16 tournament. It has been great to see over 25 schools enter each of the tournaments which have been played as a northern and southern section. The winners from each section then met at Market Harborough for finals day.
U16's Finals - Cokethorpe School vs Oswestry School (3-1 after extra time)
In the under 16 tournament Cokethorpe met Oswestry School. It was one of the best finals of recent years with both teams playing at a very high level. Oswestry took the lead with a well worked goal and with 10 minutes remaining looked destined to win the competition. However, Cokethorpe had other ideas and scored a fine equaliser to take the match into extra time. There were lots of tired bodies on the pitch but Cokethorpe scored the all-important next goal and then a late 3rd with Oswestry pushing hard for an equaliser.
U18's Finals - Cokethorpe School vs Concord College (5-1)
In the under 18 final, Cokethorpe again represented the southern section against Concorde College from the North. Again it was an extremely close match and was 1-1 at half time. However, Cokethope dominated the second half to win the match 5-1. It really was a fantastic afternoon of sport with all players being fantastic ambassadors for their schools.
Huge congratulations to Cokethorpe for participating and winner both the under 16's and under 18's.
We look forward to the competition running again next season so please do look out for invitations to be involved.
